I spoke about this today at our premier agent training and it's definitely a hot topic right now.

There was a tiny scuff in the beginning when we launched, but now folks have caught on and are realing in the ratings and reviews.

This post is mostly for those who may not have heard yet, or are just joining the party late.  :-)

Great information. I am aware of what testimonials will do for a listing but was unaware that it was available on Zillow.

Something tells me we are going to see hundreds of profiles with 5 star reviews and hundreds more with no reviews at all.  How much stock do you think potential buyers and sellers put in these reviews when everyone has either 5 stars or none at all?  I mean who is going to ask a review from a transaction that went bad?  Haven't we all had a deal or two that went South or a personality conflict that could never be resolved?

Don't get me wrong, testimonials are a proven business winner but when only the happy people speak up it doesn't always present a realistic frame of reference.  I guess I'm still undecided if this will really make a difference or not.  Until then, it's off to contact my best past clients...

Thanks Gerard, I think I just may know your next stop....     :-)

Hey Iran - those giving great service won't worry about the bad reviews, folks are going to find these reviews and ratings available whether we invite them or not?  NAR surveys buyers and sellers every year and then produces a report, here's a great way to get a jump on those awesome endorsements.

Those who have none will appear just like in this post, and those that do will also appear.  My guess is that very soon, those who are active and doing their best for clients will rise to the top.  I have seen reviews on many things (both in and out of this business) that were less than 5 star and over the top.  Did it have any bearing on my final decision?  Not really.  Why?  Probably because 10-20 great reviews prevails over the 1 or 2 less than desirable ones?  Just my thought anyway...  Thanks for commenting.

So anyone can review?  I was under the impression you had to request an endorsement...  If people are free to review whether they have done business with you or not, well that's a different story.  However, that brings up an entirely different issue, are the reviews legit?  Curious if someone could fill me in on this?

Posted by Iran Watson, Marietta Real Estate Agent - Photographer (Georgia Elite Realty) almost 10 years ago
Iran - not just anyone can review, please take a quick look at the FAQ link I added to this post. You'll find this question and many other questions that have already been answered and that might also be very helpful to you. Thanks. :-)

I have got to do this. I will get on it right away.  Thanks for the info.

This is such an issue for me. I have had my clients do reviews on LinkedIn and I can't simply copy them over.

Brad, I'm all over this. I have clients who recently said where and how can I give you a good reference!

Posted by Connie Harvey, Realtor - Nashville TN Real Estate (Pilkerton Realtors) almost 10 years ago

I ask for them all the time....but I ask for them to place on my personal marketing pieces.  Great idea!

I have read about this but I am with Vickie (#10).  I already ask my clients for testimonials for my website right after closing.  I really don't want to go back and ask them again.  Going forward, I will probably ask for feedback on both.

Posted by Christine Smith, Exclusive Buyer Agent & Attorney, Canton, MA (Buyers Brokers Only LLC - www.BuyersBrokersOnly.com) almost 10 years ago

Hi Vickie - the reviews on Zillow are not a "copy & paste" type platform, the steps and measures we have in place will prevent gaming and deter folks who might consider using non authentic endorsements and reviews. The reviews on Zillow are tied to a property address unlike what you might find on LinkedIn and other sites, just ask your clients to pop in, take a second, and share their experience working with you on your Zillow profile.  I'd do it for you if you asked me.  :-)

Posted by Brad Andersohn, ActiveBrad - 707.646.1876 (Executive Director of Education at eXp Realty) almost 10 years ago

Christine - you (and Vickie) made me think of something.  Why not have your clients give a review and endorsement on Zillow then just syndicate that to ALL your other sites, blogs, social networks etc.  This way you only ask for one review and it could show up on every place you've left a footprint on the web.  You could use links, RSS feeds, widgets etc to accomplish this.

I only mention this because if there are 12.5 million visitors coming to Zillow each month on average, then this increases the amount of eyes that will see these reviews and endorsements.  You may already have that many visitors coming to your website, if so, then you are considered extremely rare and fortunate, and if not, then this would create a larger audience of eyes and the potential to drive even more traffic to your website.

Just a thought....  :-)

In talking to many friends we all fear someone hacking our endorsements and never getting rid of the results. Are there safeguards?

Posted by Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS, South Puget Sound Washington Agent/Broker! (Fathom Realty Washington LLC) almost 10 years ago

I just looked up Debe Maxwell who had a review submitted and approved, for me personally, this would definitely have a significant impact on my choice and decision to work with her.  I travel alot too, and would want an agent like this working with my wife when it comes time to relocate or have to move.

Nice job Debe! Now, what are the chances she'll ever see or find this comment burried on the web and deep within the Blogs of ActiveRain?  She's pretty good so I don't doubt she'll be by at some point to find this and comment.  lol   :-))

Posted by Brad Andersohn, ActiveBrad - 707.646.1876 (Executive Director of Education at eXp Realty) almost 10 years ago

Hey Paul - have no fear. There'll be no hacking of endorsements on Zillow.  Great to hear from you btw.  :-)

Brad - Looks like I need to get on the ball for this one.  I value online reviews for all kinds of things I buy & services I need - so why wouldn't clients do the same for us?

Posted by Susan Brown (Keller Williams NE, Kingwood Texas (Humble & Atascocita too)) almost 10 years ago

Funny you should mention this... I was just requesting client reviews for Zillow this morning. Now I'm trying to figure out how to add photos for my newest listing.  I added a photo back in 2008, but that was a long time ago...

What is Zillow going to do with all the emails of our clients?  It sure will build their database!  I don't know that I have their permission to give it out...will check and see if they care or not.

Are the endorsements just for Agents, or can Home Stagers get endorsements and ratings as well?

Thanks for the info. I will approach my clients and see.

Ok, did it yesterday... Eager to see how many people go and fill it out!  Hoping for the best!

Posted by Brooke Shepherd, Speak With Honesty~Act with Integrity (Keller Williams Partners) almost 10 years ago

@Evelyn - they moderate each and every one.

@Michelle - it currently is setup for just Lenders and now agents, I'm sure they'll be opening this up to others in the future.  We have a wide variety of members on Zillow just like here on AR, only makes sense IMHO.

@Brooke - Remember that if you do not get a rating or review back right away, it's ok to ask again later.

Sometimes our timing to is not exactly the best timing for our clients.  The last hotel I stayed at took them asking twice before I submitted my comments and review.  REMS from San Diego has already sent me a third request which I think I better fill out today or they won't stop sending them and asking me.  Great event by the way!  :-)

Brad, The same day I signed up, a former client, now in New Mexico, called about one of my really unique listings. It was fun to reconnect.  I will have to ask her for an endorsement.

Happy Healthy and successful New Year!! Say Hi to Troy!
